“What’ll I wear!? I’ll never find another polka dotted scarf!? My passport! My laptop!? I should have never bought a bag for my stuff! I should have never gotten out of my house!? I hate everything!” This was me, in Bali, when I had my backpack stolen. It’s always a gut wrenching feeling when you’ve ever had a bag stolen or lost. It has so much of your stuff. The cops couldn’t really do anything, because it could have been anybody.

With the advancement in technology, apps like LugLoc and TravelTag help travelers locate and track their bag. It’s simple – you place a small device in your bag, and you it works as a GPS tracker. Apps enable you to connect it to your device via Bluetooth or wifi and you can track the location of your bag real time. Helpful? I think so.

The handy device with the app

Smart bags integrated bags with GPS devices, but since the airlines ban on smart luggage bags, LugLoc bridges this gap.

The app is easy to use and definitely solves a problem. You create an account, turn on your Bluetooth, pair up your device and you’re ready to go. It’s functional, simple and easy to navigate.

Granted, the app doesn’t have to be complex, but, a few other competitors have a very cluttered UI. Tracking the luggage is the only purpose the app serves. That said, the app should explore ways it can add value to the customers. I mean, how else would they retain customers. It shouldn’t stop with a single purchase. The only way it’ll be worth being on my phone the entire time, or I would consider recommending the product to someone else is if it provides a value add.

Travel is no longer considered a luxury. People are now traveling more than ever, and whether it’s for business or leisure, travelers want recommendations and itineraries. This is the perfect opportunity for Lugloc to capitalize on. In fact, they don’t even have to create all the content themselves. LugLoc can reach out to it’s customers and crowd-source the content. This way, not only does LugLoc provide content, but also creates avenues to engage with the consumers. Depending on the quality of content, it may serve more than one purpose and give people more reasons to be on the app.

For now though, when you travel, make sure you safeguard yourself, and for whatever it’s worth, regardless of who advises you against it, you can pull off that polka dotted scarf!
